Biltmore Wedding Dress Exhibit Starts In February

A new exhibit is taking place at Biltmore. This special Biltmore wedding dress exhibit starts on Feb. 12, 2016. The costume exhibition is named  “Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film”. This exciting and romantic new exhibition will include 40 wedding dresses and wedding attire from the movie industry. This special exhibition features 19 classic films featuring wedding dresses and groom’s attire. Also on display in a separate exhibition will be the Biltmore Estate family weddings and other special occasions from Biltmore’s own Vanderbilt and Cecil families. This collection will be on display at The Biltmore Legacy in Antler Hill Village.

The costumes from “Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film” will be on display throughout Biltmore House. The award-winning costumes span 300 years of wedding fashion from films set in the years 1645 to 1935. The exhibition features 19 classic films, including the iconic Jane Austen romances
of “Sense and Sensibility,” “Emma,” and “Pride and Prejudice.” To make the display even better the Biltmore floral design team and staff will create and display beautiful floral arrangements along with the wedding gown displays.

Also on display will be the “first-ever display of the wedding veil worn by Mary Lee Ryan Cecil and her cousin Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy. Mrs. Cecil is married to William A.V. Cecil, grandson of George Vanderbilt.” Additionally on display will be a replica of the wedding gown worn by daughter Cornelia Vanderbilt when she married John Cecil in 1924.

This romantic new exhibit will begin just in time for Valentine Day and last until mid summer. “Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film” at Biltmore starts on Feb. 12, 2016 and run through July 4, 2016.
